MEET THE AUTHORS

This is us. My son Léo and me — Danila.

We created these stories because we love
storytelling, drawing and making jokes.

Léo Teodor Correia

Léo Teodor Correia was born in Geneva, Switzerland in 2014 and more than anything else in the world, enjoyed telling stories.

He wanted to become an author when he grew up.

Léo was highly intelligent, generous, kind, forgiving and compassionate boy with an incredible sense of humor, contagious laughter and persistence of doing things until they are completely done – whether a drawing or the assembly of a plane, train or a ship model.

He spent hours daily drawing the stories he would later narrate about Foxy, Bunny and Tarantula and their most wonderous adventures.

Léo traveled and lived in many countries in Europe and Africa. He spoke Bulgarian, English, French and Portuguese.

Danila Boneva

I was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 1974 — a peaceful, artistic town founded thousands of years ago by the father of Alexander the Great.

My family loved to read, and I had the privilege of reading stories from around the world: one day an Indian princess lost in a jungle, the next an African child running from a lion, or dreaming of becoming the first girl Formula 1 driver.

I left Bulgaria in the late 90s and travelled the world, turning childhood adventures into a career with the United Nations in DR Congo, Rwanda, Yemen and Iraq. For a time, I lost my dream side. It came back when my son Léo was born.

We read or invented stories almost every day. Skipping was always to Léo’s chagrin. Then came a day when Léo was no longer with us. I felt I had to write down the stories. The ones that made him laugh, and would make other children and parents laugh too.

Today I continue writing stories and poetry, and live with my husband and Léo’s Dad in Maputo, Mozambique and not a single day passes without remembering Léo, the stories he told and the joy we shared.
